Have you ever purchased a game on release and been made aware of some DLC you can purchase as well despite the fact that the game just released? Congratulations, you have encountered "Day 1 DLC".
Now, DLC available on the first day of release is not always a bad thing, sometimes it's made by pre-production staff and artists that had nothing else to do while the game was in production. What is abysmal however is when content is downright removed from a game just so it can be sold to buyers later for a price.
This can and has happened and is something that you should always be aware of. Needless to say, purchasing content that was removed from the final product is downright appalling and sends an awful message.
If you don't know whether a game has had content removed just to be sold later, check online message boards and you can find information on it, there have been instances in which content was already in the game's files and is simply unlocked when the DLC purchase is made.
As I have said multiple times, you vote with your wallet. Never pay for DLC on day 1 unless you want the practice to continue. You have to decide whether or not some DLC could have just been in the base game in the first place instead of being sold to you later.
Remember though, this does not apply to free-to-play games, having paid DLC from day 1 is part of their entire business model and is to be expected.
As always, thank you for reading.
